The basic formula for calculating belt conveyor capacity is:

Information:

The number 60 is used to convert seconds to minutes.
If you want to calculate in tons per hour, add the material density (ρ):

Determining the Cross-Section Area of Material (A)
The cross-sectional area depends on the width of the belt and the shape of the material stacked on top. The value of A can be calculated using a simple approach:

k = Cross-sectional shape factor, depending on idler angle and material type (range 0.015–0.03)

Belt speed (V) = 2 m/sec
Material density (ρ) = 1.5 tons/m³
Factor k = 0.02
Steps:
Calculate the cross-sectional area (A):
A = 0.02 × ( 0.8 ) 2 = 0.0128 m²
Calculate the volumetric capacity (Q):
Q = 0.0128 × 2 × 60 = 1.536 m ³ / hour
Calculate the capacity in tons (Qₜ):
Q t = 1.536 × 1.5 = 2.304 t o n / hour
So, the belt conveyor is capable of moving around 2.3 tons of material per hour.
